(The Sound of Stone)

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy and aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and the natural cycle of growth and decay. It emphasizes simplicity, authenticity, and a deep appreciation for the transient nature of life.

(Wabi-sabi)

Imperfection:

Wabi-sabi Embraces imperfections, flaws, and irregularities. Imperfections tell the story of an object. This is particularly evident in handmade objects, where the distinctiveness of the maker's touch is celebrated.

Impermanence:

Everything is temporary and constantly changing. Wabi-sabi acknowledges this truth and finds beauty in the fleeting moments of life.

Simplicity:

Wabi-sabi values minimalism and an uncluttered aesthetic, focusing on what is essential and meaningful.

-Repair-

This ceramic speaker was designed around the ability to be easily repaired. The hardwood facades are held on to the ceramic by a loose-fitting gasket to allow easy removal or replacement. The facade hides the hardware fastening the speaker driver to the ceramic via philips screws and an epoxied treated wood insert. This simple and effective solution makes repairing the speaker very easy.

If the ceramic happens to break, repair is also possible and will add to the speaker's story. Using the kintsugi technique of filling the cracks with gold draws attention to the imperfections while celebrating them.
